Junior bantamweights Jose Martinez and Alejandro Santiago set for rematch on on ESPN on March 24

Junior bantamweights Jose Martinez and Alejandro Santiago will meet in rematch on March 24 at the Complejo Ferial de Puerto Rico in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Golden Boy Promotions announced on Thursday.

The scheduled 10-round fight will headline the Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN card, which will air on ESPN and ESPN Deportes beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET.

In November 2016, at the same venue, Martinez (20-0-1, 13 KOs), 25, of Puerto Rico, and Santiago (15-2-3, 7 KOs), 22, of Mexico, fought to an eight-round draw. One judge had Martinez winning 79-73, but the other two judges each scored the fight 76-76.

Martinez has won two fights in a row by knockout since. Santiago has won three fights in a row by knockout since.

“I’m extremely happy and grateful to once again fight against Alejandro Santiago,” Martinez said. “I wanted this fight to get that thorn off my side and to show all of my people what I’m made of. I learned a lot from the first fight because it was so close. I’ll walk away with the win by training hard and being in great condition.”

Santiago said he was also happy to have a rematch.

“I believe I won the first fight,” Santiago said. “It was a close fight, but this time there will be no doubts. I’m working really hard for this fight. I’m very motivated, and I think that a victory will put me on the pathway to a world title. Martinez is a great fighter, and I know it will be a great fight. It’ll be a fight between Mexico and Puerto Rico, which is always big for boxing.”

The co-feature, also a 10-rounder in the 115-pound division, will match Joshua Franco (13-0, 6 KOs), 22, of San Antonio, against Lucas Fernandez (11-1-1, 8 KOs), 26, of Argentina.

Other fights announced for the card include an all-Puerto Rican six-round lightweight fight between Danielito Zorrilla (4-0, 4 KOs) and Regino Canales (6-6, 2 KOs); Brooklyn, New York, junior welterweight Zachary Ochoa (18-1, 7 KOs) taking on Puerto Rico’s Ryan Pino (7-1, 3 KOs) in a six-rounder; and Puerto Rico’s Kevin Nieves (12-1, 5 KOs) against Edgardo Rivera (7-5-2, 5 KOs) in a six-round lightweight fight.

Boston welterweight up-and-comer Rashidi Ellis (18-0, 12 KOs) will also fight on the card in an eight-round bout against an opponent to be determined.
